Andra Bucci:

Andra Bucci was born in Fiume in July 1939, the daughter of a Catholic father and a Jewish mother. Her mother’s family had relocated to Fiume from Russia in an attempt to escape Jewish persecution. Her and her sister are among the youngest survivors of Auschwitz.

Since 1995 Andra with her sister have returned to Auschwitz-Birkenau numerous times, usually accompanied by student groups. They have spoken to schoolchildren and audiences around Italy, including crowds numbering in the thousands. Having fully accepted the burden of memory-keepers, they patiently and unforgettably testify to the human suffering, evil, and testify for the fact that even during one’s darkest moments, some optimism and goodness can be found.

Apart from being one of the most influential witnesses of the genocide of Jews, Andra and Tatiana are also known for their literary memoir titled ‘Always Remember Your Name”, which was published in 2022. Their story was recently the feature of a KCRA documentary and soon to be a feature film to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.
