Rabbi Yossi's Blog

Welcome to Rabbi Yossi's Blog; where you can expect to find thoughts on current events, Torah learning and Jewish spirituality. And of course, some good Jewish humor.

G-d in My Corner

Dmitry Salita ("Star of David"; born April 4, 1982) is a Ukrainian-born undefeated boxer from Brooklyn, New York in the junior welterweight division.

He has a 30-0-1 record, with 16 KOs. He is 5 ft 9 in (1.75 m), and his reach is 69".

He is a practicing Orthodox Jew, and became so after he moved to Brooklyn. He does not fight on the Sabbath or Jewish holidays and follows Jewish dietary laws.

His story is fascinating and he writes (briefly) about his story in this column:

G-d in My Corner

A documentary has been made about his story and he is featured in a three part series on HBO Sports’ “Ring Life”.

Why Should America Support Israel?

That’s a question that has been bounced around recently. I found this video (from October 6, 1991 – over 17 years ago) where the Rebbe answers that very question. I think it is very relevant to the current political environment in the Middle East. Click here to view the video (I haven’t yet worked out how to embed the video).
