
Bar Mitzvah at Chabad
Preparing each child to live a Jewish life with pride, knowledge, and enthusiasm.
When your child reaches the age of Bar Mitzvah, we share the privilege and responsibility of welcoming him into the adult Jewish community with your family. Together, we hope to instill the meaning and significance of the occasion, to celebrate appropriately, and to honor your child's place among the Jewish people.
Age & Significance
Bar Mitzvah is the day on which a Jewish boy becomes responsible for Mitzvot. According to the Talmud, this takes place at age 13. This happens automatically on their Jewish birth date, regardless of the way the day is marked.
Requirements
- Jewish according to Halachic guidelines.
- Family participation in Chabad programs and events.
- Enrollment in Hebrew School for the student and siblings.
- Dates should be set with the Rabbi one year in advance.
The Celebration
- Please visit our training page for details regarding individual Bar Mitzvah preparation and tutoring.
- Celebrate with a Shabbat Kiddush, a Sunday brunch, or on a Monday or Thursday.
- All food brought in must meet our Kashrut standards.
Bar Mitzvah Club
Led by Rabbi Yossi Spiero, the Bar Mitzvah Club is for boys ages 12-13. Through discussions and hands-on activities, the boys explore relevant topics to inspire and enrich their Bar Mitzvah experience.
- Learn how to put on Tefillin, its blessings, and modern relevance.
- Participate in inspiring group discussions.
- Receive Hebrew reading and Torah reading assistance.
Fees & Donations
Note: Donations of $360-$500 are encouraged in honor of the special occasion.
No one is ever turned away due to lack of funds.
