LOCAL GROUP PRODUCING AND DISTRIBUTING MASKS FOR THE GREATER SACRAMENTO AREA

Folsom Mask Makers is a rapidly growing group of volunteers responding to the current Covid-19 pandemic and the need for face masks in the community.  This team project, which was launched mid-March, has created over 32,000 DIY face masks for over 100 Greater Sacramento Area organizations, including hospitals, medical groups, dentists, care homes, schools, and emergency service agencies and also provides them to community members who need them.

Volunteers from Sacramento, Placer, and El Dorado counties are sewing, washing and ironing fabric, preparing sewing kits, and driving to pick up and deliver materials and finished products. Many of the volunteers are themselves healthcare providers, working long shifts and then volunteering in this effort. More volunteers are critically needed to meet the rising challenges and donations of materials such as 100% cotton fabric, elastic, vinyl and other materials are greatly appreciated. We are especially in need of people who can sew and help on our visual mask team in creating special masks that facilitate lip reading for the hearing impaired.  For further information about volunteering and making donations, visit the Folsom Mask Makers Facebook page.
